Dandruff: Problem That Haunts Half of World

CORUM’s New Clinical Data for Epi-On™ Showcases Significant Results to Reduce Scalp Flaking in Just 7 Days!

Trend Summary

Dandruff is a skin condition that affects the scalp of up to half the world’s population[1]. Symptoms include flaking and itchiness. The formation of dandruff is closely associated with a yeast-like fungus Malassezia spp. that feeds on oils on the scalps. Conventional method for the management of dandruff is via antifungal therapies. Typical choices of active ingredients are ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione and selenium sulfide. Anti-dandruff products containing these actives are regulated as over-the-counter and prescription medicines in the US and are only considered safe when the use levels are below a certain regulated concentration, often at 0-2%. Common side effects to these ingredients are skin irritation and temporary hair loss. Consumer concerns over these possible side effects are growing, which urges them to find products containing safer ingredients that perform equal or even better to the conventional systems. CORUM is excited to present Epi-OnTM, a whole-new novel cosmetic ingredient that is safe and efficacious to tackle dandruff, while maintaining a healthy scalp homeostasis. The most recent clinical study further assure Epi-OnTM significantly reduces scalp flaking in just 7 days! We are happy to see our innovation offering a safer alternative to conventional ingredients.

Ingredient Focus

CORUM’s Epi-On™ (INCI: Azelamidopropyl Dimethyl Amine (and) Water (and) Butylene Glycol) shows a potent anti-bacterial ability on the Malassezia spp. Yeast, as well as a high efficacy in downregulating 5-alpha reductase and on normalizing sebum secretion, making it a fantastic choice for formulating anti-flaking treatment. Further with its excellent ability of skin recovery, Epi-On™ can holistically revive hair health and fortify scalp homeostasis.

Compared to other FDA-approved ingredients, like zinc pyrithione or ketoconazole, which aims to deal with dandruff problem, Epi-On™ is safer without any side effect to maintain the scalp health, and thus it can be applied on a daily basis in haircare product line, including scalp serums, shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, and leave-in conditioner to styling products such as anti-frizz serums, volumizing sprays, hair mousses, hairsprays, dry shampoos and more. Epi-On™ is water soluble and has good compatibility with other cosmetic ingredients in neutral pH range, making it the perfect cosmetic active ingredient in day-to-day haircare products.

Epi-On™ is proved insignificant in cytotoxicity, non-irritant to skin, slightly irritant to eye, non-mutagenic and non-pro-mutagenic. With this active ingredient, many testers in clinical trial praised its superb performance on “Scalp-itch relief” and ability to make “Flakes disappeared”. In Lab evaluations, it scored high for rebalance sebum secretion and reduce inflammation.
